Elizabeth Ellen Stafford

Elizabeth Ellen Stafford4 (William1, Robert2, Daniel3) was born 12 May 1841 in Morgan County, Indiana.  Elizabeth was injured when she was only 2 years old by a fall causing her to lose her hearing.  In the census records from 1850 to 1880 she is enumerated as being "deaf and dumb."  It is this handicap that helped link the records for Elizabeth and her mother as they moved to various parts of the country.  No record has been found to show that Elizabeth ever married even though she was the mother of three daughters.  She apparently did not have a very easy life which can probably be attributed to her handicap.  She eventually died in a poor home in Decatur County, Kansas and is buried in the Vallonia Cemetery in that county along with her niece and her family, Clara and Silas Dooley.  There are no records showing the Elizabeth ever owned any land
