Mary J. Stafford and David C. Breedlove Genealogy

Research has not been conducted for this line of Staffords, who descend from William through his son James Stafford and his son Grant. Only preliminary information is available at this time It is a lateral line to Robert Stafford, a brother to James Stafford. It is presented here for those of you who are researching other lines descending from William Stafford.

Mary Jane "Mollie" Stafford and David C. Breedlove

30. Mary Jane^⁴ Stafford (William¹ James²Grant³) Born between 01 August 1833^¹ and 1839 in Indiana;^²date and place of her death have not been determined. Grant Stafford states in his will that Mary Stafford is his daughter.^³ Using the date of death of Grant's first wife, Mary, it is most likely to conclude that Mary is the daughter of Grant and his first wife. According to the biographical sketch about Grant Stafford, Mary and David Breedlove were married.^¹ No marriage record is listed for this couple in the Indiana online marriage record database, however, the 1850^² and 1860^⁴ census records provide evidence that their marriage occurred sometime within that 10 year period and based on the age of their child Mary F. Breedlove, they were probably married about 1857 of after.^⁴ Research is needed to determine the date and place of their marriage.

Census records document that they lived in Clay Township in Morgan County, Indiana in 1860.^⁴This census record shows a difference of 11 years in age between David and Mary Breedlove. This couple is not enumerated together in any of the future census records. In 1870, there is a listing for woman, who could be Mary Breedlove nee Stafford and her children,^⁵ but further research is needed.
